Non-calculous distension of the gall-bladder in childhood.

چکیده
Gall-bladder disease is uncommon in childhood. In 1928 Potter collected reports of 226 cases of biliary disease in young subjects and a further 206 cases in the next decade (Potter, 1938). Ulin, Nosal, and Martin (1952) found another 43 cases reported between 1938-1948, but of the 475 cases so described he could accept only 326 as being authentic. Of the 30 cases of authentic gall-bladder disease reviewed by Ulin et al., only one was of acute non-calculous distension, namely that by Narat (1940). Two similar cases had been previously reported in 1933 by F6vre and we have found another 18 recorded cases. The salient features of all these are tabulated (Table). We here add 5 further cases to the 21 previously reported.

Acute distension of the gall bladder in children.
Diseases of the gall bladder in childhood are of great interest. Recently, Forshall and Rickham (1954) and previously Potter (1938) drew attention to cholecystitis associated with gall stones. The majority of such cases do not present as acute emergencies. Fevre (1933) states that diseases of the biliary tract presenting as surgical emergencies are usually a perforation or volvulus of the gall ...

AIMS To investigate the fibrinolytic activity of normal and calculous human bile. METHODS Fibrinolytic properties of the biliary tract were studied in patients with gall bladder stones (n = 7) compared with acalculous gall bladders (n = 8). RESULTS Bile plasminogen activating activity was detected in a wide range in both groups (calculous bile median 0.35 IU/ml; range: 0.06-6.59, versus nor...
متن کاملSpontaneous Necrosis of the Gall Bladder.
RUPTURE of the gall bladder is not an uncommon phenomenon usually associated with gangrene following acute calculous cholecystitis. Cases have been reported following non-calculous cholecy-stitis (Maingot, 1957) and there are other isolated cases of rarer causes. Case Report A male, aged 58, presented with a history of bleeding per rectum for six months. Routine sig-moidoscopy showed a carcinom...
متن کاملDistension of the gall bladder inhibits sphincter of Oddi motility in humans.
Studies in animals have suggested a neural reflex between the gall bladder and the sphincter of Oddi. The aim of this study was to investigate whether sphincter of Oddi motility is altered by distension of the gall bladder in humans. Sphincter of Oddi motility was recorded intraoperatively in 10 patients undergoing elective cholecystectomy for gall stones. The manometry was performed by a tripl...
